On 24 May 2019, the RUB alumni service invited doctoral alumni to celebrate the Silver Doctoral Jubilee, the 25th anniversary of their doctoral degree. Four Silver Doctoral Students from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering also received their certificates during the ceremony.

Together with the rector of the RUB, Prof. Dr. Axel Schölmerich, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rüdiger Höffer, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ceremoniously presented the certificates to the Silver PhD students Dr.-Ing. Norbert Hölscher, Dr.-Ing. Diethard König, Dr.-Ing. Ioannis Papadakis and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Strunkheide. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Hölscher is today managing director and partner of the engineering company Niemann & Partner in the Technology Centre Ruhr and deals with issues in the fields of wind engineering, fluid mechanics, building dynamics and environmental technology. Dr.-Ing. Diethard König continued his work at the faculty after completing his doctorate and now works at the Chair of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics as an Senior Lecturer. Dr.-Ing. Ioannis Papadakis founded the company dr. papadakis GmbH after his doctorate, which carries out activities in the fields of hydrological foundations, drainage systems, flood risk management as well as object planning. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Strunkheide is today the Chairman of the non-profit institute “Wasser und Boden e.V.” in Bochum, which deals with research and expertise in the water, soil and energy sectors.
