The Department of Computing in Engineering welcomes its new team member: RUBy. The robot dog from the manufacturer Boston Dynamics can be used on rough construction sites, climb stairs independently as well as avoid obstacles. This makes it unique in the university landscape.
The robot model "Spot Explorer" is already used in diverse industries as well as research applications. With its 360° inspection, it can explore hazardous, inaccessible and remote environments and carry up to 14 kg of inspection equipment. Using the Autowalk feature, RUBy can create digital twins on construction sites and compare as-built conditions with Building Information Modeling (BIM). In mining, it can create routine tunnel inspection routes and additionally attach payloads to take measurements and ensure safe working conditions.
