"Bridges" is the current topic of the "Waschbärenklasse" (raccoon class) at the Waldschule in Querenburg, and so the elementary school students came to visit the faculty to get a firsthand look at the world of experts on the subject.
Dr. Ulf Winkelmann from the Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics working group showed them the faculty's own wind tunnel, in which a bridge model had to withstand different wind loads. In a subsequent workshop organized by the PR team in cooperation with the SFB 837, the young researchers had the opportunity to build their own bridge creations with noodles and marshmallows - as long as the latter were not eaten beforehand. The creative structures were then subjected to a stress test with increasing weights. Some highlights of the resulting constructions can be seen in the gallery.
