On March 15, 2022, after more than 10 years of successful cooperation between the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), a double-degree agreement for the master's program in computational engineering was signed by Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Martin Paul and VGU President Prof. Dr. Thomas Benz.
Since 2009, the CompEng@VGU master's course has been offered at VGU in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and has since had over 50 graduates, more than a third of whom have pursued a doctoral degree to start an international career. One of the first graduates from 2012, Dr. Lu Trong Khiem Nguyen, was appointed Lecturer in Multiscale Materials at the University Glasgow in January 2022.
At the start of the program in 2009, teaching was initially provided by a Flying Faculty consisting of German lecturers. In the course of the partnership, our faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering supported the VGU to continue the study program independently with lecturers from Vietnam as of 2018.
