Last Monday, 12 June 2023, interested pupils were given an exciting insight into the apprenticeship as a building materials tester at the RUB as part of the career exploration days.

This year, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum again offered career explorations for 8th grade pupils. For one day, they were able to get a taste of the training opportunities at the RUB and learn about work processes in one of three occupational fields on offer:

• Construction, Architecture, Surveying
• IT, Computer
• Natural Sciences.

The career exploration takes place after an analysis of potential, during which the pupils examined their skills and interests. For example, a group of pupils visited the laboratory of the Department of Transport Engineering, which trains pupils to become construction material testers, and learned how asphalt specimens are produced and their properties examined with the help of various testing machines and methods.

The Department of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics also trains students to become construction material testers and offered the pupils further insights into the profession in their testing hall in the afternoon.
