Husam Sameer Al-Baghdadi, postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Engineering Hydrology and Water Resources Management, was invited by the World Green Building Council to participate in the workshops and events at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023 (COP28), which took place in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023.

Husam Sameer Al-Baghdadi is part of the consortium of the international research project CO2NSTRUCT, which brings together world-leading experts and researchers with complementary expertise in the fields of construction and building materials, circular economy and climate modelling. CO2NSTRUCT is an EU-funded research project that aims to identify, test and quantify the impact of the circular economy on climate change modelling for six key carbon-intensive materials: Cement, steel, bricks, glass, wood and insulation materials. Thus, the project aims to complement such models with circular economy measures and improve their ability to develop and assess circular options. This will help to achieve the emission reduction targets set by policy makers and assess the impact of the circular economy on greenhouse gas reduction. The project runs from 2022 to 2026 and is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

As part of COP28, Husam Sameer Al-Baghdadi took part in several workshops and seminars to provide up-to-date information from various sectors, particularly the construction industry, on measures to mitigate climate change.
