On 19 January 2024, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted its annual Academic Anniversary Celebration at the RUB Event Centre. The event was presented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Marc Wichern, Dean of the Faculty, and Maren Störmann, a student on the Environmental Engineering programme.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to put their engineering knowledge to the test in an interactive quiz - from questions on wind engineering and fluid mechanics, to payloads on boats from construction materials technology, as well as chemical reactions in urban water management.
The first highlight of the celebration was the 50th anniversary of the Civil Engineering degree programme, which was attended by graduates from the very beginning. Prof. Wichern took the audience through unforgettable moments, such as the founding phase of the Faculty, successful research projects over the last few decades, the development of the degree programmes and future prospects for the Faculty.
Selected students also received prizes for their outstanding academic achievements from renowned industry partners (Kluge Sanierung GmbH, Niemann Ingenieure GbR, ZPP Ingenieure AG) as well as the Wolfgang Teichgräber Prize 2023. In addition, two graduates were awarded the Computation in Engineering & Digitalisation Faculty Prize.
The next highlight was RUBy, the robot dog of the Chair of Computer Science in Civil Engineering, dancing in the hall of the event centre and presenting the moderator duo with a graduate hat, which also heralded the honouring of the graduates of the 2022/23 academic years.
The evening ended in the foyer of the event centre with snacks and drinks accompanied by a DJ.
We would like to thank the cellists Mathilda Overlöper and Charlotte Hinn as well as our colleague from the PR team DJ Eclectique for the musical accompaniment.
We wish all graduates all the best for the future and every success on their career path!
