Review: Academic Year Celebration

29.01.2025

Akademische Jahresfeier 2024 - 1

On January 17, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted its annual Academic Anniversary Celebration at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum's Event Center. The event was moderated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Marc Wichern, Dean of the Faculty, and Manuela Heinrichs, student and member of the student council of the Civil Engineering course.

An interactive quiz livened up the event and challenged the guests' knowledge - from the famous pasta counter of the canteen to children's photos of professors and questions from the field of engineering.

In his speech, Prof. Wichern reviewed the highlights of engineering history and humorously presented current marketing strategies. Another central point of the program was the awarding of outstanding students: prizes for special academic achievements were presented by renowned industry partners, including Kluge Sanierung GmbH and Niemann Ingenieure GbR. The ZERNA Prize 2024 and the Wolfgang Teichgräber Prize 2024 were also awarded. Two graduates also received the Computation in Engineering & Digitalization Faculty Prize.

The first graduates of the new Master's degree course in Subsurface Engineering and the honoring of former members of the Civil Engineering Student Council attracted particular attention this year. Another highlight was the appearance of RUBy, the robot dog of the Chair of Computing in Engineering, who was awarded a bottle of sparkling wine as a thank you for his “energetic motivation”.

Thomas Klein created an atmospheric mood right at the beginning of the ceremony, with the Coldplay song “Viva la Vida”, among others. The evening ended in the foyer of the event center with food and drinks and background music by DJ Eclectique.

We would like to congratulate all graduates and wish them all the best and every success in their future careers!
