Project Office Building and Environment (PBU)

The Project Office Building and Environment (PBU) is an innovative teaching and learning facility at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr University Bochum. At the PBU, students have the opportunity to work on projects under practical conditions. The aim is to optimally prepare future civil and environmental engineers for the demands of professional life by complementing traditional university teaching and learning forms such as lectures, seminars and exercises with experience in project work under real-life conditions.

The Typewriter

"Die Schreibmaschine" is a branch of the RUB Writing Center for engineering students. Here you can find support if you find it difficult to get started with writing, need help with a specific writing project, or generally want to learn something about scientific writing.

Autodesk Revit

Autodesk® Revit® is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) solution for structural engineering and provides specialized tools for efficient structural design and analysis. With the help of BIM, Revit optimizes interdisciplinary collaboration in structural design, helping to reduce errors and improve collaboration between structural engineers and architects.

Microsoft Excel 2016

Excel 2016 is a comprehensive spreadsheet program from the Microsoft company. With Excel it is possible to evaluate and present data in the most diverse ways. Hundreds of ready-made formulas from the areas of financial mathematics, statistics, etc. are available.
This course teaches the basics, how to use formulas and functions, and how to create charts in Microsoft Excel 2016. The theory is put into practice through examples.

LateX Introductory Course

LaTeX is a powerful tool for creating a precise and consistent layout of text documents. Especially for the creation of scientific papers during studies, the use of this tool is often indispensable. During the four-day training course, an introduction to the basic concepts and capabilities of LaTeX will be given. With the help of simple examples, the possible applications will be explained in an understandable way. Previous knowledge is not required.

think-cell

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering uses think-cell, a presentation extension for Microsoft Office, to create presentations. For PowerPoint, users can access the components "think-cell chart" for diagrams (waterfall, Gantt charts, etc.) and "think-cell layout" for arranging design elements. The "think-cell round" plug-in for Excel simplifies the rounding of numbers.
