While the online semester is still on the timetable for the students, the first employees return to the RUB. Annika Jodehl, research assistant at the Chair of Tunneling and Construction Management, is now also working in her office in the IC building again. In the interview "At home with..." she explains what her home office time looked like and what she did first when she came back to the RUB campus.
How would you describe your home office in three words?
"Quiet, good coffee with milk, working in sweatpants"
What do you miss most from regular RUB operation?
"What I miss most about the RUB are my colleagues and the joint coffee breaks. There are no joint discussions and short arrangements in between and I even miss the canteen from time to time."
What is your current favorite online tool and why?
"Zoom is currently a daily companion and the digital meetings and online teaching have worked better than expected. However, after a day full of digital meetings I sometimes can't see it anymore."
How are you keeping in shape these days?
"With walks during the lunch break and running units after work. A few steps in between is just good to clear your head. At the beginning of the home office time I was a little more ambitious."
How was the first day back on campus? What was the first thing you did?
"To enter the deserted university again was at first a bit unusual. Back in the office I first took care of my poor office plant and talked to my colleagues - of course with sufficient distance. Even though I was able to gain many advantages from my home office time, I now also enjoy the benefits of being back in the office and, for example, I really appreciate the physical separation between work and private life."
What is the biggest challenge for you in everyday Corona life? What did you maybe learn for yourself personally in the Corona time?
"The lack of planning and contact with loved ones is hard for me. I had to get very used to not being able to pursue my hobbies as before and to shift down a gear in my free time. But I also noticed how good deceleration can do."
Thanks for the great interview!
