In memory of Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Roik and on the occasion of his 100th birthday, the Chair of Steel, Lightweight and Composite Construction is organizing a festive colloquium on September 6, 2024 in the event center of the Ruhr University Bochum.
The Chair of Steel, Lightweight and Composite Construction under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Knobloch invites interested parties to discuss current research in steel construction on the 100th birthday of the expert in steel composite construction Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Roik. At the beginning of the event, Werner Hanenkamp and Rolf Kindmann will dedicate themselves to the life's work of Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Roik.
The following specialist presentations await the guests:
Interested parties can register for the event until August 26, 2024.

Karlheinz Roik completed his studies in civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt in 1950. He then worked for the steel construction company MAN Werk Gustavsburg, where he was involved in ten major bridges, including the Cologne-Rodenkirchen suspension bridge. After gaining his doctorate with distinction in Darmstadt, he worked as head of department at Neußer Eisenbau-Bleichert and introduced a number of technical innovations (stud welding process for composite dowels on the Mainz-Weisenau floodbed bridge, new prestressing process on the Liedtal bridge). He held his first professorship for steel construction at the TU Berlin before taking over the teaching and research area at the Ruhr University Bochum in 1972. Roik was successful in the field of composite structures (research into and definition of guidelines for the design and execution of steel composite beams), introduced CAD techniques in steel construction, worked extensively on Eurocode 4 (composite construction) and was involved in DIN 18806 (composite structures, composite columns). As a damage assessor, he was involved in the Vienna Danube Bridge, the West Gate Bridge (partial collapse), the Auckland Harbour Bridge (defects) and the Hobart Bridge in Tasmania (ship collision, partial collapse).
In 1978, he co-founded the engineering firm HRA (Haensel, Roik, Albrecht) in Bochum and retired in 1997.
